About Me

I am a double academic scholar at Surbiton High School, and I am passionate about maths and science. I am a determined student with a drive to achieve top grades in everything I do. As well as this I am a hockey-mad, fun and bubbly teenager who is obsessed with Greys Anatomy and loves to hang out with my seven siblings! I would say one of my greatest skills is my time-management. I am currently managing a job, training 6 days a week, studying three and a half a-levels, being a corporal in the British Army Cadet force, and having a social life! I haven’t missed a school deadline in 3 years and have achieved top grades in all of my public exams so far. On top of all this, I eat, sleep and breathe hockey. After a long day at school, there is nothing more I want to do than run around a pitch and knock the ball about for 2 hours, and I can honestly say that I spend all day looking forward to training in the evening.

INTERVIEW

Technically, I believe that I have an exceptional ability to not only read and understand other players but the game as a whole. I think that I am able to see the gaps in a defence that others might not spot, and the weak spots of a defender’s tackle stance. Mentally, I believe I am more resilient than most and have an unwavering sense of optimism and positivity. I like to think of myself as the player in the team who helps to lift everyone up when they aren’t performing to the best of their ability. I pride myself on the fact that after every mistake, failure and deselection, I can bounce back and put in the extra work in response to any feedback, even if these means doing sprints at 6am before school in the weeks building up to my England U16 Trial!

What appeals to me about college in the US is how seriously the sport is taken. Everything from the strength and conditioning to daily training sessions and regular matches sounds like the perfect recipe for improving and developing as not only a player, but as a person. Being coached by world class coaches and playing at an incredibly high level with the best young players from around the globe is a once in a lifetime opportunity that I do not want to miss. I have always loved the team spirit of hockey and from what I have seen and heard, the camaraderie is like nothing I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing! A team of great friends who all share the same goals and dreams, and go through the highs and lows together, sounds like an environment that I would thrive in.

To improve. I want to become the best version of myself who is stronger, fitter, technically better, tactically smarter and more experienced whilst I also want to graduate with skills that will set me up for life. I want to be part of a team that is successful nationally whilst maintaining my grades and making friendships for life. I hope to be a leader who is an integral part of the team as well as someone who motivates and lifts everyone around them and consequently helps the team to compete at the highest level and succeed. When I come to the end of my college career, I want to put myself in the best position possible to compete for Great Britain at a senior level.
